Our Arxangel and Karera litter is 4 weeks old today and their little personalities are starting to develop. Everyone in the litter comes running when they hear someone nearby. They all want a ton of attention and of course, to play!! We are introducing new toys, sounds and encouraging the puppies to use their noses. They are now eating puppy mush in addition to nursing and we have introduced water. They have had their first bath and get their nails trimmed weekly. They have upgraded to actual dog collars (quick release) and now have a lot of teeth! They are use to being handled by our family and we have friends and other family members that come over to help socialize them with different people. The litter is also learning how to be clean by potting on the potty pads in the whelping box. We have observed several of the puppies walking over to the potty pads to relieve themselves. This is a huge milestone for us, woohoo! Everyone in this litter is gorgeous, we are very happy with the Arxangel x Karera combination. Today everyone will be weighed and have their second de-worming. Change of PlansDon't worry everyone, the change of plans doesn't involve our current litter. We are still planning to keep a little girl for IPO/IGP. Our change of plans involves additions to our breeding program. Greystoke's molars did not come in properly so we are discussing adding the POL female from his litter. Plans for her would be the same, she would be prepared for the show ring and eventually be sent out with a professional handler. We will post pictures of our little Argentina bomb shell when we get her.
We will also be adding another male to our program. I don't want to say too much until he gets here, but this guy is gorgeous! He is a combination of top American lines and Argentina lines. He will add much needed diversity to our program. I won't say who his sire is yet, but he is a top producer here in the U.S. and has been in the top 20. His dam is also out of a huge kennel in Argentina that regularly exports dogs to the U.S. and has many champions here. This kennel produced one of the most influential sires in the United States. We have some major plans for this boy. We will be preparing him for the show ring this summer and hope to send him out to nearby shows this fall. Next year, when he matures, he will be sent with a professional handler to be finished. He will also be tagging along to training with our local schutzhund club. If he has any working ability, we may also pursue that venue after he is done showing. We will see, the Euro lines are more known for preserving working ability. Stay tuned for our training progress as we work to get our new imports trained and out into the show ring.

This past weekend we attended a local trial held by two local clubs- Cajun Team Schutzhund Club and Cypress Working Dogs. I will leave their link at the end, if you are local and interested in checking out either of those clubs. I have always had an interest in Schutzhund since I was a child. I was always amazed at the bond and control that was necessary between the dog and handler. We didn't have anyone trialing this year, but we enjoyed watching the teams work and seeing all their hard work come to fruition. The hardest part about getting started is finding a club to train with. There are a few all breed clubs, of course, for dobermans the United Doberman Club is a great place to get started if you are lucky enough to have an affiliated club in your area. A few other clubs to check out: the United Schutzhund Clubs of America, DVG (German Association of Working Dog Sport Clubs), Protection Sports Association (their website will give you a list of clubs), and KNPV- USA (Clubs listed on their site). If you are local to any clubs, get in contact to go out and meet the members. Don't expect to bring your dog to training the first few times, you will most likely be there to observe, learn and meet the other members. We are eagerly preparing for our Arxangel x Karera litter that is due mid February 2019. Producing a litter of puppies takes a lot of time, money, and sometimes heartache. Preparations for our litters generally start years before the litter is actually produced. We have spent numerous hours researching pedigrees and talking with other breeders in order to find combinations that produce not only correct dobermans with great temperaments but also healthy dobermans that will be a part of the family for the next 10+ years. Right now the breed is in jeopardy with an almost 50% chance of a dog developing DCM in it's lifetime. No one knows the inheritance of DCM and no breeder can claim that their lines are DCM free. No line is DCM free. We are doing our best to research pedigrees, complete health screening, choose lines with longevity, lower the amount of inbreeding in our lines, and to be a part of the solution to the health problems in our breed.
You will see that we are working on importing new blood and our dogs are no longer only European. We are still working to preserve certain qualities of the European doberman- substance, the gorgeous heads, temperament, working drive but we are also adding in a few things lacking in those lines. We hope to increase diversity, health, refinement and produce a dog that can not only be competitive in the show ring but that also has the working drive and temperament for bite work. We generally produce litters for ourselves, meaning, we try to improve with each generation and produce a puppy that we would like to keep for show and/or work. This year we are only planning 1, maybe 2 litters if everything works out. We generally do not make profit off of litters as all puppy money is invested in titling and health testing our dogs. We do have successful careers and often have to take time from our jobs when we have litters. Breeding is not a money making business, we do it for love of the breed. We love seeing our puppies give joy to their families and seeing our show/working puppies succeed in the ring/trials. Hello everyone, this is my first attempt at making a blog. We have a lot of exciting things going on and I thought I would like to share it with everyone. We currently have some new dogs coming to the kennel, one is already titled and the other is in preparation for the show ring. I thought I would share the journey from birth and import, to trying to obtain his AKC Championship and all the other adventures we may find ourselves in. We also have a litter due in February to an awesome up and coming stud, Arxangel Von Schwarze Kraft. This may be his first litter sired in the United States, I am unsure if he has puppies in the U.S. yet. Our Arxangel and Karera litter was confirmed by ultrasound, the vet says he saw 7 so far. Hopefully everything will go well and I will be posting lots of puppy pictures and video next month. 2019 just started, let's make this a great year!

AuthorWe are a doberman preservation breeder, breeding for conformation and working temperament. We participate in AKC and working events and do health testing on all of our adults prior to breeding. We do not mass produce and generally do have a wait list for all of our litters. We do work with new breeders who are interested in improving the breed. Archives
