This past weekend we attended a local trial held by two local clubs- Cajun Team Schutzhund Club and Cypress Working Dogs. I will leave their link at the end, if you are local and interested in checking out either of those clubs. I have always had an interest in Schutzhund since I was a child. I was always amazed at the bond and control that was necessary between the dog and handler. We didn't have anyone trialing this year, but we enjoyed watching the teams work and seeing all their hard work come to fruition. The hardest part about getting started is finding a club to train with. There are a few all breed clubs, of course, for dobermans the United Doberman Club is a great place to get started if you are lucky enough to have an affiliated club in your area. A few other clubs to check out: the United Schutzhund Clubs of America, DVG (German Association of Working Dog Sport Clubs), Protection Sports Association (their website will give you a list of clubs), and KNPV- USA (Clubs listed on their site). If you are local to any clubs, get in contact to go out and meet the members. Don't expect to bring your dog to training the first few times, you will most likely be there to observe, learn and meet the other members. AuthorWe are a doberman preservation breeder, breeding for conformation and working temperament. We participate in AKC and working events and do health testing on all of our adults prior to breeding. We do not mass produce and generally do have a wait list for all of our litters. We do work with new breeders who are interested in improving the breed. Archives
